Rudolph Blume Fine Art/ ArtScan Gallery presents QuantumDada Phase 2.  Opening Reception Saturday, October 23rd from 6:00 to 8:00pm. On view through November 20th. Show extended through Saturday, December 4, 2010. Save the date for our closing reception on Saturday, December 4 from 6 to 8pm.

Quantumdada Phase 2 is the second of a proposed series of projects connecting aspects of the quantum world with the world of art as represented by Dada. Phase 1 took place in July/August at the Sonja Roesch Gallery. Phase 2 opens at the Rudolph Blume Fine Art/ArtScan Gallery and will feature 15 artists.

Quantum Mechanics has been the most accurately predictive mathematical model ever devised and some 80% of electronic devices depend on it. yet the quantum world is so utterly counter intuitive that in Richard Feynman’s words "...no one understands quantum mechanics, ... nobody knows how it can be like this". Clearly, ideas "...that are crazy enough to succeed", to paraphrase Niels Bohr’s famous quip, are called for in order to approach these seemingly unsolvable enigmas.

The connection between the quantum world and Dada is the nature of consciousness. Quantum physics depends on a conscious observer to set in motion essential quantum reactions, such as wave function collapse, in order to create a reality, as we know it. Dada represents one of the highest levels of consciousness, human creativity, and is ready to jump into the breech. Dada loves to help out with its brand of provocation and wackiness.

This exhibition asks more questions than it provides answers. For instance, what level of consciousness in necessary to affect these quantum phenomena? Is the primordial consciousness of a reptile sufficient or does it take a PhD in Quantum Physics? We think Dada can contribute greatly by coming up with strange and exalted works of art. As postulated by Antonio Damasio, consciousness at its core is pure feeling and its language is a "nonverbal vocabulary of feelings".

As usual, we hope to have fun experiencing some eccentric Dada work, never mind any answers.
