The Country Playhouse (voted through Houston Community Newspapers as Best Community Theatre of 2010) Black Box Productions present Sonia and Suzy by Nancy Geyer, running from December January 14 to 29, 2011 and directed by Claire Hart Palumbo.

Set in New York City, Sonia and Suzy opens with a meeting between the two women for the first time in 1980. Sonia, a famous stage actress, gave up her newborn baby daughter for adoption twenty-five years earlier. Suzy has no idea she’s adopted and is horrified to discover that, unlike herself, her mother is not of the Jewish faith. Over the following nine years we follow the relationship between mother and daughter, which evolves with humor, heartache and joy.

Nancy Geyer is the author of the novels “Flying South” published by Charles Scribner’s Sons and “Frailties”, published by Little, Brown and Company (subsequently published in paperback in the UK). Her plays include Dust, one of three winners in the Southern Playwriting Competition; I Would Give You Violets, which received an option contract for a Broadway production; The Reflection Pool, nominated for the 2003 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize; Versus, a finalist in the national 50th Anniversary Stanley Drama Award Competition; and All The Pretty Horses, produced at Stages Repertory Theatre in April 2009.

Founder and director of The Writers Circle, Nancy Geyer is a teacher in the creative writing division of Rice University’s School of Continuing Studies. She is a member of The Dramatists Guild and The Authors League of America.
