    Contemporary music group Musiqa continues its Loft Concert series with Born in a State of Flux(us): The Aktion Music of Ben Patterson, a free performance that explores the relationship between music, movement, and the visual arts.

    Have you ever attended a concert that includes five concert artists,  a group of composers and dancers, one double bass, plastic  butterflies to be catapulted, a recording of "Carmen," a bicycle  pump, a camel head--and members of the audience? Then you don't want to miss Born in a Sate of Flux(us): The Aktion Music of Ben Patterson.

    When: Sunday, November 7th at 7:00 p.m.
    Where: Zilkha Hall, The Hobby Center, 800 Babgy, Houston 77002. Please note the special time and location.
    Free: but seating is limited, so come early!

    Musiqa presents this free concert in collaboration with the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston featuring Ben Patterson, composer; Karol Bennett, soprano; Nicholas Brown, double bass; Lisa Burrell, violin; Rosanna Butterfield, cello; James Dunham, viola; Sean Wang, violin and lots of surprises. The subject of the current retrospective at the Contemporary Arts Museum, multi-disciplinary artist Ben Patterson was one of the founding members of Fluxus, a movement originating in the 1960's that challenged existing artistic norms and conventions.

    In conjunction with the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston retrospective exhibition Benjamin Patterson: Born in the State of FLUX/us. On view November 6, 2010 – January 30, 2011.

    Founded in 2002, Musiqa (www.musiqahouston.org ) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the performance of contemporary classical music. Led by five composers, Musiqa aims to enrich and inspire the community through programs that integrate contemporary music with other modern art-forms. Musiqa celebrates modern creative arts through inter-disciplinary concerts that highlight modern music and its connections to literature, film, dance, art, and more. With its innovative collaborations and educational programming, Musiqa strives to make modern repertoire accessible and vital to audiences of all ages and musical backgrounds. Musiqa is funded in part by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.

    Parking:

    The Hobby Center parking garage is located directly behind the complex with easy access from both Rusk and Walker streets. This 7-level, above-ground, 800-car garage offers self-parking ease for patrons and visitors alike. Event parking is an affordable $6 per vehicle. Valet service is provided during performances and in conjunction with Artista operating hours in front of the Hobby Center on Bagby Street, for $15 per vehicle between Rusk and Walker.
