Thirty thousand slaves a year passed through the door of no return at Elmina as they started a harrowing journey that would lead to an uncertain life in the Americas. Discover the story of the first European slave castle, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located in present-day Ghana, Elmina was one of the primary conduits for slaves coming from Africa to America. Its memories still echo today.

Cosponsored by the Houston Museum of African-American Culture.
