The Archaeological Institute of American, Houston presents Voyage of the Middle Passage - Looking Back, a Legacy of Belief, Sunday, Noember 21, 2010. Featuring Dr Ken Brown, University of Houston.

Recent archaeological investigations into enslaved quarters at four plantation sites suggest that Africans and African-Americans developed a single, broad adaptation to enslavement, despite vastly different local conditions. Artifacts and features reveal how peoples of African descent adapted in order to survive the oppression of enslavement and the freedom that followed.

This lecture will focus on transformations in religious and spiritual practices from Africa to America over more than 200 years.

Cosponsored by the Houston Museum of African-American Culture.
