The Grand 1894 Opera House and City Ballet of Houston present The Nutcracker. The Nutcracker returns to The Grand 1894 Opera House on December 11-12, 2010 as City Ballet of Houston presents an annual holiday favorite that will delight audiences of all ages with spectacular music and dance. Performances are scheduled for Saturday, December 11th at 2:30 pm and 8pm and on Sunday, December 12th at 2:30pm.

Based on the story "The Nutcracker and the King of Mice" written by E.T.A. Hoffman, The Nutcracker tells the story of a young girl who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince, a Sugar Plum Fairy and a fierce battle against a Mouse King. Enjoy this full length production of the holiday classic staged by Frederic Franklin and performed by City Ballet of Houston.

Fifty years ago, City Ballet of Houston was founded with Margo Marshall as Artistic Director, with Mary Beth Arrington now serving as Associate Artistic Director. Since its inception, one of the primary aims of City Ballet of Houston has been the training of students for professional dance. Early in its existence, the ballet company also adopted educational outreach to the community as one of its goals. In this regard, City Ballet of Houston has earned a reputation for providing dance opportunities for youth from disadvantaged backgrounds. City Ballet of Houston is composed of youth and professional level dancers, and it is recognized for its artistic excellence. City Ballet of Houston has been named as an Honor Company in Regional Dance America.
