The Jung Center of Houston presents the exhibition Anna Ataeva: Human Condition.  On view February 2 through February 26.

The paintings in the Human Condition series are explorations of the human form. Contorted bodies, and body parts writhe in ambiguous spaces, without a clear narrative. Part anatomical study, part psychic melodrama, these heavily impastoed works are reflections on physical, personal and emotional failure.

Anna Ataeva is a multi-disciplined artist with an extensive education, both academic and practical. She first attended the School of Oriental Arts in Moscow and the prestigious Moscow Fine Art Lyceum. Anna received her Masters in Fine Arts from The State Academic Fine Art Institute of Russian Academy of Arts (Moscow), where she studied and mastered multiple painting and drawing techniques. She also completed the “Professional Special Course on Modern Traits in Art" at The Institute of Contemporary Arts (director Joseph Bakstein, Moscow), where she graduated with a License in Management in the Field of Visual Arts. Anna’s contemporary art project for her graduate degree was accepted to the National Museum of Russian Fine Art, The State Tretyakov Gallery.

Anna has participated in close to one hundred art shows and exhibitions thus far in her career. Her talent in art design was recognized multiple times, and her fine art paintings have been exhibited in the art halls of Moscow, Brussels, London and in the United States.

Anna’s artwork has been published and reviewed in multiple publications including: the encyclopedia “The Brilliant Europe" (Russia and Europe); art almanac “The Most Important Russian Artists" (Russia); art newspaper “Isograph" (Russia); art journal “Kultura" (Russia); and, television program “Cultural News" (Moscow, Russia).

Anna seeks to capture an individual’s imagination as their attention flows through the space of her work with effortlessness and grace. She has worked using multiple techniques and styles, including such unusual and complex techniques like as and etching. At this mature stage of her career she works almost exclusively in oil on canvas, but performs commissioned drawings and murals of various sizes. Anna’s vision embraces ethnical, modern and traditional traits in fine art. The unique quality of her artwork is the combination of classical aesthetic beauty, confidence in mastery, and creativity.
