Friday, March 18 at 7:00 PM:  Rick Lowe´s Favorite Film - Nothing But a Man

    Directed by Michael Roemer
    USA, 1964
    Black & White
    95 Minutes

Introduced by Project Row Houses founder Rick Lowe.

Duff Anderson (Ivan Dixon) tries to make ends meet in a small Alabama town where he falls in love with a preacher´s daughter (Abbey Lincoln). When Anderson does not bend to his racist white employers, he is fired and labeled a troublemaker.

Utilizing a style influenced by neorealism, this drama of life in the 1960s South anticipates the 1970s black independent films of Charles Burnett et al. It was added to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress in 1993.

"The great thing about this movie is the rising moral power of an individual who learns how to stand up and say no. It´s a triumph not just for this black character, not just for black audiences, but for everyone." — Washington Post
