Bayou Bend, the American decorative arts center of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, hosts the Bayou Bend History Series - Living Spaces: Making a House a Home.

At the time of our country´s founding, the idea of dedicating a space in the home for a specific purpose was considered a luxury; more often, families used a common room for dining, entertaining, and occasionally for sleeping. As the nation developed, homes became more sophisticated, including specialized rooms and furnishings.

The spring Bayou Bend History Series will focus on three of these specific kinds of spaces — parlors, dining rooms, and bedrooms — and how they were designed, furnished and used. Each session in the series will look at a different room, and include a focused tour through the house and a related presentation. Refreshments will also be provided.

This series is perfect for history buffs who want to know more about how our nation´s past is reflected in the objects that have survived as well as antiques enthusiasts who are curious about the historic context of their collections.
