Divas World Productions presents Divas Salon: Anybody Perfect?  8pm, Friday, January 14, in Duncan Recital Hall, Rice University

Psychologist Brené Brown will discuss “Perfectionism and Shame”, and how this widespread condition affects our modern life. Musicologist Matthew Dirst will draw connections to composers throughout history whose perfectionism greatly affected their creativity and creation of music.

Music selections will be from the very composers who destroyed some of their work – or themselves – due to this condition. Divas World artists performing during the evening include: Sonja Bruzauskas, Ken Gayle, and Rodney Waters.

Our Divas Salon series revives the traditional European-style salons, which has been popular for many centuries. Each salon consists of a concert with music surrounding the specific theme, a lecture, and a discussion following the intermission. Our salon evenings have explored Venice, women composers, roses, cabaret, myths & legends, folk tales, visual music, medicine and music, and Texas composers. In the Song Salon series, we seek to unearth the connections that exist between different art forms, musical styles, and our individual modern experience. Embracing all five senses, the evenings create grounds for high stimulation and profound inspiration.

Each Divas Salon concert will be brilliantly moderated by Dr. David Eagleman, a neuroscientist with Baylor College of Medicine, a best-selling author, and long-time board member of Divas World.

To add to the excitement of our 2010-2011 season, all of our Divas Salon concerts will be recorded for national broadcast on public radio, and you are invited to be a part of the excitement and unique behind-the-scenes action during the making of a national radio show.
