The Jung Center of Houston presents Technology and the Soul. Noted author Erik Davis explores how we imagine technology and how the seeming explosion of its influence in our lives is part of a long, fascinating history. Wednesday, February 16, 7:30 - 9 pm.

In this age of Twitter, iPads, and mobile phones, it often seems that the world of technology is drowning out the world of soul. But what if the world of the creative imagination and the world of machines were more mixed up than we usually acknowledge? This talk will explore some of the ways in which we imagine technology as savior, as devil, as nature, as slave. But it will also show how the soul itself has been shaped for centuries by various technologies that have mimicked, amplified, and manipulated our internal world of creative fantasy and archetypal imagination.

Erik Davis writes and speaks regularly on contemporary culture, media, and spirituality. He is the author, most recently, of Nomad Codes: Adventures in Modern Esoterica. He has taught at Pacifica, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, and CIIS, and hosts the weekly Internet radio show Expanding Mind. He is currently pursuing a PhD in religious studies at Rice University.
