Every third Wednesday of the month at the Artist SPEAKeasy, Spacetaker hosts artists from varying disciplines (visual, performing, literary, etc.) to present, in an informal atmosphere, creative dialogs/talks/presentations about their work followed by a question and answer session where the audience can glean further insight into the artist, the artist's aesthetic and creative process.

The evening is designed not only to bring together artists and those who appreciate the arts, but also to introduce local artists to each other to encourage conversation and cross-disciplinary collaboration between artists and their chosen media. Drinks and nosh are served at 6:30; formal talks are underway at 7:00. Guests are invited to come and go as necessary.

February's Artist SPEAKeasy features visual artist Melanie Schlossberg and and a collaborative project between local artist Brent Bruni Comiskey and Houston design firm Culture Pilot..

    About Melanie Schlossberg:
Melanie spent her early days in Kingston, NY looking over astrology charts with her mother on the sales floor of her family’s scuba diving shop. She continued her interest in the topic while studying at Syracuse University where she gained a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree in Metalsmithing. Melanie began to take formal astrology classes at The Astrology Institute in Boston, MA and completed the Institute’s two year certification program in contemporary and traditional astrology, as well as a level 3 certification from the National Council of Geocosmic Research. She has served on the board of the NCGR GulfCoast Chapter and the Astrological Society of Austin. Her recent artwork includes a commission of illustrations of the classical constellations for the forthcoming release of Starlight Software V.2.

About Brent Bruni Comiskey and Culture Pilot:
Brent was awarded a grant from the Houston Arts Alliance to produce a conceptual project called "Glossolalia Paraphernalia". He shot 5000 photographs in the City of Houston to display on www.glossolaliaparaphernalia.com.  Javier Fadul of Culture Pilot was tapped to collaborate on the project by developing an algorithm to anonymously title the images by leveraging social media.

Brent Bruni Comiskey has produced various projects and experimental music in Houston for more than 20 years and was recently chosen by Barbara Davis Gallery to feature photographic work at The Station Museum for the Art4Life benefit show. Culture Pilot is a small, multi-disciplinary design studio located in the Heights of Houston. Clients include Black Sheep Agency, TEDxHouston, #SLGT, Famous Vodka, among other specialized commercial web projects.
