Hooks-Epstein Galleries is pleased to present Kelli Scott Kelley: Fairytale, an exhibition of mixed-media paintings and drawings on found fabrics. The exhibition opens with a reception for the artist on Saturday, January 15, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00pm. The exhibition continues through Saturday, February 12, 2011.

In Fairytale, Kelli Scott Kelley’s imagery was inspired by a fairytale she had written based on her personal autobiography and dreams. The pieces, featured in the exhibition, are the first pieces to be generated by her “fairytale”. Kelley states, “It has been said that fairytales are feminine stories while myths are masculine. However, like in myths, the characters are archetypal and the narratives chronicle a hero’s journey.”

Fairytale is an exhibition of mixed-media paintings and drawings on found fabrics. These recycled fabrics offer a surface made rich by age and use, as well as a means for making new work without relying on new materials.

Kelli Scott Kelley received her BFA from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA and her MFA from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA. She is currently a tenured professor of painting at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA.

** After the reception, Diverse Works will present Edge of the Earth featuring Kelli Scott Kelley and Bill Kelley. This evening of video, music and poetry will begin at 9pm.

Fairytale will continue through February 12, 2011.
