The Martians are Coming! FrenetiCore presents The War of the Worlds a live staged performance for the entire family with singing, dancing, and multi-media special effects. FrenetiCore re-imagines the classic musical version by Jeff Wayne this February-March. Hear the music, see the magic! FrenetiCore’s cast of talented singers, dancers, and musicians will thrill and entertain you with a new take on the timeless classic. Directed by Robert Thoth and Rebecca French.

About the album: (from www.thewaroftheworlds.com): Inspired by the HG Wells novel, the album originally released in June 1978 features a compelling blend of prog rock and classical, as well as a spell-binding narration by Richard Burton and outstanding performances by some of the biggest artists of the 70s, including David Essex, Justin Hayward, Phil Lynott and Julie Covington.

The album has enjoyed huge success and critical acclaim across the globe with some 15 million records sold, spending over 330 weeks in the UK Album Chart (to date) plus achieving two International hits singles. It has also won two prestigious UK Ivor Novello Awards, the US Best Recording in Science Fiction and Fantasy voted by a panel of judges including Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, and last year Jeff won Classic Rock’s ‘Showman of The Year’ Award.

Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of The Worlds has grown into a true classic, garnering a new generation of devoted followers, whilst inspiring the faithful listeners from the past decades.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Jeff Wayne’s multi-platinum award-winning work, a special Limited Edition box-set of 2006’s debut UK Arena tour was released on November 24, 2008.

I'm afraid I have to echo what Desultorous had to say. The pity here is that I've only got 1000 characters to describe why it reeked. I've owned this album since I was 13, and this production threatened to demolish my childhood memories. You know a show is really bad when Thomas White (aka Gage Maverick) is actually one of the BEST parts of it. The comedic bits at the beginning, mixed with poorly mixed MIDI files combined with instrumentals from the 6 CD collection, really POOR singing (how can you blow the opening strain of the first song?), poor acting, and neophyte dancing made me wonder how to get out before the first act was over. About the only interesting part was the interpretive dance for "The Red Weed" at the beginning of Act II. The director clearly did not know how to direct what was essentially a musical theatre show. Ouch. Richard Burton & H.G. Wells must be rolling in their graves now. I wanted to join them there. DON'T see it. 2nd worst show I've ever seen in Houston. Collapse

I really wanted to like this show. It's billed as a "live staged performance with singing,dancing and multimedia special effects". Intriguing, yes?? No. Cheesy. Painfully amaturish. Where to begin... Two slide projectors and a fog machine don't count as multi-media or special effects. The "acting" was nothing more than over-wrought pantomime more appropriate to charades. The singing, well, it could have been a combination of poor miking and terrible sound system (but I don't think so). The tripod aliens, dancers on painters stilts, might have worked if it didn't require stagehands following them around (in case they toppled?) I've never been to another production where I thought to myself,"maybe more fog would help..." It wouldn't have. The dancing didn't suck. I kinda liked the groovy, tentacled monster. However cartwheels rarely count as dance and it just wasn't enough to make up for the show's myriad of flaws. Too bad. Skip the show and download Jeff Wayne's album instead. Collapse
