Discovery Green Goes Red for Women in the month of February. The American Heart Association asks Houstonians to wear red and raise awareness for the number 1 killer of women – heart disease.

The American Heart Association (AHA) asks Houstonians to show their support for the fight against heart disease in women by wearing red on National Wear Red Day. And in addition to wearing red on this day, the AHA invites you to join them at Discovery Green during the month of February to view a large display of 48 red dress silhouettes standing 4-feet high. The month-long installation will make a visual statement and remind Houstonians that 48 women die each hour from cardiovascular disease and stroke in the United States. It’s an easy, powerful way to speak up and show support for Go Red For Women, the American Heart Association’s solution to saving women’s lives.

To get engaged and help spread the message, Wear Red Day campaign resources are available online for individuals, local institutions and companies. These free, downloadable tools help build awareness for the Go Red for Women movement and offer a variety of ways to get involved. Why: Heart disease is still the No. 1 killer of women. One in three women has some form of cardiovascular disease, and it kills more than 480,000 every year, which is about one every minute. When it comes to risk, about 90 percent of all US women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease. Go Red For Women celebrates the energy, passion and power that women have and can use to band together to wipe out heart disease and stroke.
