Blue Willow Bookshop presents Karen Walrond, Tuesday, February 8 at 7:00pm. Karen Walrond will discuss and sign copies of The Beauty of Different.

The Beauty of Different is a chronicle of beautiful imagery and portraiture which both provoke and tell a story, combined with written observations and essays on the ways in which we find people who display individuality and uniqueness intriguing, even as we all collectively strive to be more like these people every day.

Divided into chapters focused on the many ways individuality or uniqueness can manifest itself, the book includes insightful commentary, and features both written and visual portraits of individuals who embody the major characteristics described in each chapter. These are ordinary people, who are really actually extraordinary -- and therefore immensely beautiful as a result.

This book is designed to connect, inspire and encourage you to reconsider those attributes that make you unique, and reframe them as characteristics of distinction -- maybe even your superpowers.

Karen Walrond takes the lessons she learned in corporate America and digital media, and combines them with her photography and digital desktop skills to develop articles, online essays, and digital stories. Her fine art pieces and projects have been included in exhibits around the country. She was one of the founding contributors to the collaborative website, Shutter Sisters, a photoblog aimed at inspiring and creating community among avid women photographers.

She is the author of Through the Gadling Lens, a weekly column on the travel site Gadling.com, with tips and other information on how to take amazing travel shots. She continues to maintain her blog Chookooloonks.

Karen is originally from Trinidad & Tobago, but currently lives in Houston, Texas with her English husband, American daughter and Rufus the Wonderdog. She holds a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Texas A&M University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Houston. She's a lover not a fighter, and really, just an all-round great gal.
