The Archaeological Institute of American, Houston presents Voyage of a Thousand Wonders - A Bronze Age Shipwreck, 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 14, 2011, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, The Brown Theater, 1001 Bissonnet.

THE AIA GEORGE BASS LECTURE ON UNDERWATER ARCHAEOLOGY – HONORING DR. GEORGE BASS, FOUNDER OF THE INSTITUTE OF NAUTICAL ARCHAEOLOGY. Featured speaker:  Dr. Cemal Pulak, The Institute of Nautical Archaeology, Texas A&M University.

The Uluburun, the world’s oldest, intact known shipwreck, was discovered off the coast of Turkey in 1982. Its vast cargo, including copper, tin and glass ingots, gold and silver jewelry, and faience and ivory objects, occupied a team of archaeologists for more than ten seasons.

Join Dr. Cemal Pulak as he describes his work with Dr. George Bass on the Uluburun shipwreck. Celebrate with us the achievements of Dr. Bass, the “father of underwater archaeology,” at the inaugural lecture of the newly endowed George Bass Lecture on Underwater Archaeology.

Cosponsored by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the American Turkish Association of Houston.
