Celebrate Women's History Month and Texas History Month at Barrington Living History Farm March 26-27 from 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with the program True Texas Women.

Though separated by time from the pioneer women who settled this vast land known as Texas, we are still connected to them through the emotions and experiences that all women share. On March 26th and 27th, from 10:00 am until 4:30 pm, the staff of Barrington Living History Farm will present True Texas Women which will share the stories of the lives of these strong, determined women who often endured difficult and extreme hardships as they helped tame the Texas frontier.

As men tamed the Texas frontier, the women and girls of the family often endured difficult and extreme hardships, but their determination earned them the title of "gentle tamers and sun-bonneted helpmates. Visit Barrington Farm on this special weekend and hear the sagas of these women's lives using authentic letters and diary entries, spoken by costumed interpreters.

Try your hand at making items necessary for day-to-day living, including spinning, crocheting, quilting, tatting and crafting items that pioneer women would have been proud to display in their homes. See a variety of fashions, jewelry and cosmetics that were just as essential to early Texas women as they are to women today.

Visit the kitchen for a peek at what tasty 19th century foods are cooking on the open hearth. Learn about the important aspects of pioneer women’s lives including cosmetics, 19th century fashions, childbirth, herbal remedies, and mourning the loss of a loved one.
