Country Playhouse presents the 2011 New Play Reading Series - Country Playhouse's 19th season of New Plays by Houstonians. Concert readings of selected pieces will take place Sunday nights at 7 pm, March 6 through March 27, 2011.

Country Playhouse's New Play Reading Series is comprised of four Sunday nights of concert readings of new plays written by Houston-area residents. The readings are rehearsed, and the public is invited. Since 1993, more than 100 new works have been presented in the Series. Of these plays, we know that at least 44 have gone forward with a production, publication, or recognition in a competition.

    2011 Schedule of Play Readings:

    MARCH 6 Gwen Flager’s Mother’s Day
“The anticipation and excitement of Lorean Stephens’ 1961 Mother’s Day celebration in Bynum, Alabama, collide with the arrival of a Greyhound bus from Atlanta.”

MARCH 13 Henry Feldman’s Shelter In Place
“It’s hurricane season at the Pelican Bay Bed & Breakfast: outside nature’s Category 3 storm is approaching, and inside a storm of family chaos builds to Category 5 comic proportions.”

MARCH 20 Bruce Countryman’s The Ballad of Anna Nicole
“A musical tale from Texas: the descent from excessive fame and fortune into the abyss of absolute loss and despair.”

    MARCH 27 Sarah St. John’s Gertie’s Boys
“After a lifetime devoted to helping young people find their way, senior citizen Gertie is asked once more to share her home with a troubled teen.”
