The Michele Brangwen Dance Ensemble premieres KATSU, a new work for four dancers, trumpet, saxophone, acoustic bass, and live camera, on Sunday April 3. Two shows at 6 & 8 p.m. at FotoFest, 1113 Vine Street, Houston, TX.

KATSU is created specifically for performance in FotoFest's historic 1913 Galleries. The term katsu is the zen word for a roar. KATSU is about ideas and emotions that gain force and momentum, like a powerful train in the distance that grows more intense at it gets closer. It's also our wildest and most experimental work yet.

The program will also feature new music by Tim Hagans, Thomas Helton, and Seth Paynter performed by TIM HAGANS SUBVERSIVE JAZZ.

Performers are Brooke Barnes-Meeks, Scarlett Barnes, Lindsey McGill and Michele Brangwen, dancers; Tim Hagans, trumpet; Seth Paynter, saxophone; Thomas Helton, acoustic bass; Richard Cholakian, drums; Jeremy Choate, live camera.

These performances are presented in conjunction with the exhibition Nowhere Near Here: New Lens-based Work from Texas. Presented by FotoFest and Houston Center for Photography. The exhibition opens Thursday March 10. Please visit www.fotofest.org  for more details.
