Block 7 Wine Company and Spacetaker present Margaret Colvin:  Metropolitan, Margaret Colvin's solo exhibit at Block 7 Wine Company as part of the Spacetaker ARC Exhibition Series. Artist reception Wednesday, March 9th from 6-8 pm; exhibit will remain on view thru April 25th.

Contemporary artist, Margaret Colvin explores the many facets of abstraction; employing mixed media to create paintings and collages with a sense of style and presentation all her own. As her paintings move toward abstraction, the rules begin to change. Not only do the color choices become more arbitrary, but spatial relationships are also manipulated expressively.

Her recent work “Metropolitan” renders a soft organic color palette allowing the characteristics and flaws of the piece to become more prominent and defined. The emphasis is on space and the balance of color; creating a strong visual tension and interest between the two elements. Also on exhibit are Colvin’s mixed media collages that are both intimate and thought provoking. One often finds a humorous or unexpected element in each piece such as worn papers, string, painting fragments, candy wrappers and netting - anything to create a tactile surface.
