Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH) presents CAMH Slide Jam: Patrick Renner and Rachelle Vasquez, Thursday, March 24, 6:30pm.

Slide Jams provide windows into the ideas, images, and people in Houston's diverse and ever-changing arts community. Featured artists Patrick Renner and Rachelle Vasquez will show images of their work, discuss their inspirations and creative practices, and answer questions from the audience.

Patrick Renner's sculpture is an interjection in space that as a result challenges the viewer. It also represents a place in time, a moment-marker in 4-D, a bridge between the past and the future. He works with discarded material because of its embedded history and because it is something people no longer find valuable. Architectural refuse is especially useful since it comes from things that already delineate space and dictate the way people function. At Sculpture Space Renner completed the fabrication of eight fiberglass panels that, when put together, will produce a six-foot ball that he intends to roll from Sculpture Space to New York City in 2009. He received his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and his MFA in Sculpture from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. He has shown in venues throughout the US, and in Cuba. He lives and works in Houston, Texas.

Rachelle Vasquez is a Houston based artist who works primarily with fibers and likes drawing animals. Her work as of late has been more research oriented with allows her to make lots of spreadsheets and large series’ of drawings. She graduated from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Held in the Cullen Education Resource Room on the lower level of the Museum.
