Society for the Performing Arts (SPA), bringing the world’s best to Houston, announced today with great excitement that plans are coming along for the annual gala, MAD MEN of SPA, which will be held April 16, 2011 at Wortham Theater Center and will benefit SPA’s education and outreach programs.

It promises to be a dapper affair with the men of style Chuck Davidson, Tom Glanville, Jay Jones, Steve Trauber, Bobby Tudor and Marc Watts, leading the helm. The guests of this unique and exciting evening will be treated to a delicious dinner by Jackson Hicks, fabulous décor provided by Rebekah Johnson and the spectacular entertainment that will get you moving on the dance floor, SKYROCKET from Austin. There will also be a select silent auction and brief live auction.

This year’s gala will honor Founding Board Member Joe Peck for his many years he has contributed his time and efforts to SPA.

Founded in 1966, Society for the Performing Arts (SPA) is the largest independent non-profit presenting organization in the Southwest. Since its inception, SPA has sponsored more than 850 performances of the world’s finest music, dance and theater events, in adherence to the belief that the arts are fundamental to the overall enrichment and quality of life within the community. In addition to presenting artists, SPA seeks to provide a variety of learning experiences for adults and children through master classes, lectures and special student performances, as well as build relationships between the performing arts and other interests within the greater Houston area and throughout the state of Texas.

SPA’s mission is to bring the very best performers from around the world to Houston for the enjoyment, enlightenment, and education of all Houstonians. The Gala is a major part of Society for the Performing Arts’ annual fundraising campaign, and allows the organization to continue bringing Houston outstanding talent such as violinist Itzhak Perlman, Buena Vista Social Club, Mark Morris Dance Company, MOMIX, Peking Acrobats, STOMP, and David Sedaris.

Tickets begin at $500 per person with limited seating. Many underwriting opportunities are available. All funds raised at this year’s event will benefit Society for the Performing Arts’ education and outreach programs.
