    Houston Symphony at CWMP:  Dvorák’s Cello Concerto

    This season encompasses a journey filled with classical music, dancing, tributes to late, great musicians, patriotic fanfare, Italian pop and more. The season features eight exhilarating performances by the Houston Symphony. The Texas Music Festival Orchestra returns to the stage along with Houston Ballet for a mixed-repertory program.

    The Houston Symphony’s performance titled Dvorák’s Cello Concerto comes to The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, featuring the composer’s impressive final concerto. The piece is rich in expansive melodies, beautiful lyricism and extraordinary brilliance.

    Charismatic cellist, Alisa Weilerstein, brings her passionate interpretation to Dvorák’s masterpiece. Weilerstein is a veteran on the classical music scene having performed with the nation’s top orchestras, given recitals in music capitals throughout the U.S. and Europe, and regularly appeared at prestigious festivals. She is also a dedicated chamber musician.

    Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2 also is part of this classical concert.

    Pre-concert activities in the North Plaza begin at 7 p.m.

    The Pavilion offers these extraordinary performances for no cost with free mezzanine and lawn seating for all Houston Symphony concerts and Houston Ballet’s performance, as well as free seating at the Star-Spangled Salute and Texas Music Festival Orchestra.

    Plus, picnics are welcome at all performing arts events. Bring your family to The Pavilion in 2011 and celebrate the arts!

    Parking:

    Pre-paid, preferred parking is available in the Gold Lot parking garage. To purchase tickets for the parking garage, call Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000 or visit any Ticketmaster Outlet or The Pavilion Box Office.

    FREE guest parking is available in lighted and patrolled lots convenient to The Pavilion. For most events, lots open 90 minutes prior to the performance.

    Parking for guests with mobility impairments is available with proper state identification. There are a limited number of parking spaces available on a first-come, first-served basis in the Gold Lot adjacent to the VIP entrance. Access is via Six Pines Drive.
