UPDATEMiss Toni Price has had to cancel her show for May 28. Texas Johnny Boy has been scheduled to take the date. He will take the stage at 7pm. Texas Johnny Boy is an old school rhythm n’ blues vocalist as well as a multi-instrumentalist who plays harmonica, saxophones and flute. An eclectic old school R&B bluesician.

This is a perfect example of an artist that has never made a bad record who out of nowhere delivers a career album where it finally all comes together. The sound is straight out of New Orleans by way of Austin, but what makes this one different is her comfort with the songs and arrangements that only a pro can deliver. Mixing in some hot jazz and some cool blues makes for a tasty gumbo.

If you’ve ever wondered what Billie Holiday would have sounded like if she’d gone South to record in the late forties or early fifties this is it. All selections are covers, some more obscure than others, but they make for a seamless recording that is just as perfect for a Saturday evening as it is for a Sunday morning.

Asylum Street Spankers founder and leader Christina Marrs (pictured above) returns in collaboration with composer Graham Reynolds and his jazz tinged band The Golden Arm Trio. Piano, drums, bass and a horn section back Christina on new originals, Spankers classics and interpretation of some surprising cover tunes.

Christina was recently the subject of a film documenting the final months of her seventeen years leading the Spankers. Pianist/composer Graham Reynolds’ current album “DUKE! Three Portraits on Ellington” recently hit the top 5 on the CMJ Jazz chart, and he is currently recording music with actor Jack Black for an upcoming Richard Linklater film.
