Stages closes its record-breaking 2010-2011 season with a brand new production of The Great American Trailer Park Musical, playing June 1 – July 24 in Stages’ Arena Theatre. One of the most popular shows in Stages history, the new production features a zany cast of 7 actors, including Stages’ favorites Susan O. Koozin and Holland Vavra Peters. Leslie Swackhamer directs, with choreography by Krissy Richmond and musical direction by Steven Jones.

    NOW EXTENDED through September 4th!

There’s a new tenant in Armadillo Acres, and she’s wreaking havoc all over Florida’s most exclusive trailer park. The double-wide divas of this fine housing establishment have survived everything from kidnapping to no-good men to (the horror!) bad perms. But when Pippi, a “stripper on the run”, comes between agoraphobic housewife Jeannie and her tollbooth collector husband, a storm begins to brew that will shake these manufactured homes right down to their mobile foundations. All this and there’s SINGIN too!

“The show is just a whole lot of fun,” director Leslie Swackhamer said. “We have assembled such a talented cast, including lots of new faces to Stages,” Swackhamer continued. “The show is such a joy to work on. It’s easy to see why it ranks as one of the most popular shows in Stages’ history. It’s a zany, wacky good time.”

The original Stages production premiered in 2006, extending twice past it’s original closing date, and went on to become one of the highest grossing and widely attended productions in Stages history. It has since been one of the most frequently requested shows by Stages audiences.

“We are very excited to bring this piece back to Houston audiences!” Producing Artistic Director Kenn McLaughlin said. “The show was a important step in Stages history. The original production was praised by the show’s creators [Betsy Kelso and David Nehls]. We’ve worked with David and Betsy on the new production, which will have an entirely new and different team of artists at the helm. All the fun is in tact-it’s all just shown through a different lens, and that’s exciting.”
