On April 16, this beautiful green space in the shadow of downtown Houston’s dynamic skyline known as the Discovery Green Conservancy will be the setting for the 2nd Annual Disco Green, Houston’s first free, outdoor electronic music event.

 Described as “Electronic Music meets Environmental Consciousness”, the theme behind Disco Green is gathering people together that share a passion for dance music, art, culture, community and sustainability. Disco Green 2011 will feature national DJs and electronic acts performing live on the main stage. A smaller side-stage will highlight local and regional acts. The festival will also feature a variety of local food vendors, retail vendors and hands on art workshops for kids. An eco-fashion show, Haute in the City, will showcase sustainable, recycled and upcycled apparel from local designers and retailers.

Disco Green began last April as an idea to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. The innovators behind Disco Green, Adrian de la Cerda and Patrick Drew, have been friends and music aficionados for over 15 years. Adrian, a local artist and Patrick, an energy professional, are also local DJs by night. Together they developed a house music collective named “The Kitchen”, offering monthly dance music events around the city. The natural progression of “The Kitchen” events led the duo to create a different type of music event.

 “We wanted to merge our passion for DJ music and dance culture with something that was very important and thoughtful while being socially responsible“, says Drew. So from a working relationship de la Cerda already had with the Discovery Green Conservancy, Disco Green evolved.
