Calligraphy and the Call - an interactive workshop

In many religious traditions, the power of the word is paramount. And the word made visible, and beautiful, is called calligraphy. While exceedingly ancient, calligraphy continues to be a dynamic part of many religious traditions, flourishing in Islamic, Jewish and Buddhist traditions.

Sunday, May 22 at Art League Houston, four Houston-area calligraphers who practice this skill as an expression of their faith will discuss and demonstrate the art form and the role it plays in their respective traditions at Calligraphy and the Call - an interactive workshop. Workshop attendees will also have the opportunity to try their hand at the art form under the guidance of these master calligraphers.

Calligraphy and the Call is a part of Sacred Songs, Sacred Sites, a program of the Folklife and Traditional Arts Department of the Houston Arts Alliance.
