In the 1960s, many film artists set out to break down dominant media traditions and create new visual languages and immersive art experiences. This new “expanded cinema” embraced multiplicity, combined art forms, and integrated new technologies.

Presented in conjunction with CAMH’s exhibition, Stan VanDerBeek: The Culture Intercom, this special planetarium event brings a selection of pioneering experimental media works, world’s fair films and light shows of the era into the sphere.

The program includes rarely seen, mind-expanding films made in the 60s and early 70s by media art pioneers including Stan VanDerBeek, John Whitney, and Nam Jun Paik.
