IKEA Houston and the Orange Show present Countdown to Art Car Parade: “Art Sofas” Painting Party on the Plaza, Saturday, May 7, 2011, 12 – 4pm, at IKEA Houston plaza (1-10 and Antoine).
 

Art Cars are to Houston as the KLIPPAN sofa is to IKEA – both are part of the other’s history. That’s why IKEA Houston, in partnership with the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art, will create 24 “art” KLIPPAN sofas to celebrate the 24th year of the Art Car Parade on Sunday, May 22, 2011.

Following a call for entries, IKEA selected 24 local artists to design the different sofas and on May 7, the public is invited to help bring those designs to life. The finished products will be on display along the parade route during the big event, and later auctioned off to benefit the Orange Show. Don’t miss out on your chance to participate!

Plus, while you’re there, keep an EYE out for a few of Houston’s favorite art cars. Visker is scheduled to make an appearance with his fun and funky creation – “Ooja” (pictured above).
