    The Taiwanese Heritage Society of Houston (THS) will present the famous violinist Shien-ta Su in a concert at Rice University May 14.  Su’s performance in Houston is sponsored by the Taiwanese Heritage Society of Houston in celebration of Taiwan American Heritage Week.     The Taiwanese Heritage Society of Houston (THS) will present the famous violinist Shien-ta Su in a concert at Rice University May 14.  Su’s performance in Houston is sponsored by the Taiwanese Heritage Society of Houston in celebration of Taiwan American Heritage Week. The concert is entitled Ilha Formosa: On the Wings of Melody.

    Su is Chair of the Music Department at the Taipei National University of the Arts, as well as Director of the Music Research Institute and the Orchestral Percussion Music Research Institute there. He is also concertmaster at the Taipei Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestras. Su has performed all over the world with significant orchestras as well as well-known individual performers.

    Su began learning the violin at the age of five. He graduated from L’Ecole Normal de Musique in Paris in 1986 with the highest degree certificate in violin performance studies. Su made his Taiwanese debut in 1989 and in 1990 he performed with Rice Music Professor, Lin, Chao-Liang.

    The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, at Stude Concert Hall, Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, Entrance #8 on University Blvd.

    Tickets:

    Tickets will be $10. Faculty and students and their families can attend for free by showing their ID card. Children of age under 8 are not permitted.

    Tickets may be purchased at the Taiwanese Community Center, 5885 Point West, Houston, TX 77036.

    Tickets also can be reserved by email at mayconcert2011@gmail.com. Tickets may be purchased and reserved tickets may be picked up at the Stude Concert Hall box office beginning at 6 p.m. Cash and checks only will be accepted at the box office.

    Parking in front of the Hall will be free.
