For an artist whose working career spanned some 70 years, Titian left remarkably few drawings that can be attributed to him with any degree of certainty, and little consensus exists among scholars over which drawings are actually by him.

In this examination of issues and problems involved in assessing Titian as a draftsman, Aidan Weston-Lewis looks at examples of the different types of drawings Titian produced, and at their function in the artist's working procedure, with particular reference to two of the drawings in the exhibition Titian and the Golden Age of Venetian Painting: Masterpieces from the National Galleries of Scotland.

The four-week series of May Friday and Saturday Afternoon Lectures explores the art and legacy of Titian (c. 1488/90–1576), an artist renowned even in his own lifetime as the most gifted and influential painter of the Venetian school.

Admission is open to the public and free with general museum admission. Museum members always receive free admission.

Parking:

Museum Parking Garage

Located directly east of the Beck and Law buildings, the MFAH Visitors Center features a four-story covered parking garage.

The easy-to-find parking entrance is on Binz, marked by a large, yellow arrow.

You're always protected from the elements when you park your car in the Museum Garage. From there, you can go to the Visitors Center lobby and find a ticketing desk and up-to-the minute museum information.

As an added convenience, you can enter the Beck and Law buildings from the Visitors Center through security-monitored, climate-controlled tunnels connecting all three buildings.
