The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston presents their May Artful Thursday: CORE Performance Company Dance Event - The Situation of Color,  Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 6:30 PM, at the Caroline Wiess Law Building.

"I have always considered color to be a vital experience, capable of greater emotional impact than any other resource at a painter’s disposal.” —Carlos Cruz-Diez Over the last seven decades, Carlos Cruz-Diez’s experiments with the nature of color have changed the definition of painting. The artist has created a wide-ranging body of groundbreaking experimental structures that stimulate dialogue between the stable and unstable nature of color. Key to Cruz-Diez’s work is the viewers themselves, whose movements activate the color dialogue as they move in front of, through, or on the color environment.

Inspired by the exhibition Carlos Cruz-Diez: Color in Space and Time, CORE Performance Company, and artistic director Sue Schroeder, present the new work The Situation of Color. CORE dancers perform in the exhibition, offering a kinetic investigation of color as a living organism that is in a constant state of transformation.

This program is open to the public, and admission is free. A reception follows the performance. Register to win great giveaways from KUHF 88.7 FM and the MFAH. Several Dancers Core is funded in part by grants from the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance, the Pattillo Foundation, Texas Commission on the Arts, Houston Endowment, Inc., and AirTran Airways.

Artful Thursday programs receive generous funding from the Rockwell Fund. Promotional support is generously provided by KUHF 88.7 FM, Houston Public Radio. Refreshments generously provided by the Buffalo Speedway Starbucks (corner of Buffalo Speedway and Westpark), Carla Everett, manager; and the Rice Village Starbucks, Jenna Ortiz, manager.
