Asia Society Texas presents An Evening with Lisa See (pictured), 7pm, Monday, June 20.

In Dreams of Joy best-selling novelist Lisa See returns to the themes of mother love, romantic love, and love of country she brought so brilliantly to life in Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, Peony in Love, and Shanghai Girls. Join Lisa as she discusses and reads from this captivating, just-released novel that continues the story of sisters Pearl and May from Shanghai Girls. Here Pearl embarks on a perilous quest in search of her strong-willed daughter Joy, who has fled Los Angeles for China in 1957 to seek her father and throw herself into the Communist cause.

The Los Angeles Times magazine calls Dreams of Joy “a stunningly researched epic about revolutionary-era China.”

See's talk will be held in the Kyle Morrow Room on the 3rd floor of the Fondren Library at Rice University. Book sale and signing follow the talk. Presented in partnership with Blue Willow Bookshop and Office of Multicultural Community Relations, Public Affairs, Rice University.
