San Jacinto College invites the community to free a ‘Gotta Dance!’ Houston Symphony performance. This summer’s San Jacinto College (SJC) Sounds of Symphony Concert is sure to get audience members up on their feet with the Houston Symphony on June 7 at Slocomb Auditorium at the Central campus.

The performance will begin at 10:30 a.m., and is part of the Houston Symphony's free Sounds Like Fun! summer concert series, designed to provide families with a dynamic musical experience with this year's theme “Gotta Dance!” Audiences will enjoy dance numbers from such productions as "Carmen," "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," "West Side Story," and "Rodeo." Houston Symphony associate conductor Robert Franz (pictured) will lead the hour-long performance.

"This program will get your blood pumping and your heart racing," said Franz. "The concert focuses on the inner pulse that we all feel. Featuring all music with a dance beat, this program will make you want to jump and shake everything you’ve got!”

San Jacinto College has partnered with the Houston Symphony for the past two years to bring performances to all three SJC campuses. Students, employees, donors, and friends gathered at Jones Hall in February to celebrate the partnership's second year, while also raising funds for the "Promise For Their Future" Scholarship Initiative that provides scholarships to students interested in the arts and sciences.

"Having the Houston Symphony perform at our Central campus will provide students and community members with the chance to hear world-class musicians right in their backyard," said Eric Late, chair of the Central campus music department. "We look forward to this experience and welcome anyone who wants to enjoy this free Symphony event."
