Houston Arts Alliance presents Houston's Religious Mosaic: Religion in Immigrant Communities.  A Sacred Songs, Sacred Sites lecture by Dr. Helen Rose Ebaugh, 6:00 pm, Wednesday, June 8,  At Houston Arts Alliance Gallery, 3201 Allen Parkway

Houston's Religious Mosaic: Religion in Immigrant Communities will focus on the varieties and growth of religious groups and worship sites in the Houston Metropolitan area as a result of the 1965 change in the U.S. immigration law. In these social spaces immigrants gather, socialize with one another, and form a "home away from home".

Dr. Helen Ebaugh has a doctorate from Columbia University and works as a Professor of Sociology at the University of Houston. She has published five books, including, 'Religion and the New Immigrants: Continuities and Adaptations in Immigrant Congregations' and most recently, 'The Gulen Movement: A Sociological Analysis of a Civic Movement Rooted in Moderate Islam'.

Sacred Songs, Sacred Sites is organized and presented by the Folklife & Traditional Arts Program of the Houston Arts Alliance, and is funded in part by Houston Endowment, National Endowment for the Arts, Interfaith Ministries, His Highness The Aga Khan Council for the USA, Sara and Bill Morgan and Humanities Texas.
