Jung Center of Houston presents Avenging the Father: True Grit. The task of reclaiming our connection with the archetypal father is the subject of this workshop and free film screening with analyst Kate Burns.

What does it mean when a woman sets out to avenge the father? What must she sacrifice and what are the rewards? The hero/heroine's journey most often unfolds on an intrapsychic stage and reveals itself in outer life challenges. When psychic thieves and murderers "kill" or cut off the flow of inspiration generated by the archetypal father, a sacred rage develops that can either paralyze the ego or fuel a spiritual crisis leading to redemption. One feels the presence of such a psychic situation when a certain life task has been accomplished and one's personality must find renewal in preparing for the next challenge.

The Coen Brothers' movie True Grit offers a tale rich in symbols of a transformational journey. We will explore these symbols and their significance for our lives in the twenty-first century.

Please join us for a free screening of the 2010 film True Grit at 7:30 on Friday, July 15. Workshop, Saturday, July 16, 10am-12pm.

Kate Burns, LPC, Jungian analyst, has a private therapeutic practice in Houston.
