Jung Center of Houston presents Film and Psychoanalysis.  This popular series, sponsored with the Houston-Galveston Psychoanalytic Society, returns to The Jung Center this summer. Four Thursdays: August 4 - 25 at 7 pm. Free.

Join us for free film screenings and lectures, which will examine film through the lens of psychoanalysis. Each screening will be followed by brief comments from a different speaker from The Houston-Galveston Psychoanalytic Society and The Jung Center.

August 18 - The Piano (1993): This film, directed by Jane Campion, won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Stunning and evocative, it is about a mute pianist sent from Scotland to New Zealand with her daughter for an arranged marriage. It brilliantly portrays issues of sexuality, repression, love, and resilience. The film takes the viewer on an excursion into the 19th Century while weaving a stunning and timeless story.

Ellen Safier, LCSW, is a social worker and family therapist in private practice in Houston. A graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, she serves as adjunct faculty at the Houston Galveston Psychoanalytic Institute and the Baylor College of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry.

All screenings are free, and reservations are not necessary -- seating is on a first-come, first served basis.
