Society for the Performing Arts presents Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet,  Moulin Rouge - The Ballet, at 8 pm, Saturday, February 4, 2012, in Jones Hall, as part of the SPA Tudor Family Dance Series.

After a 26-year hiatus, Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet will bring its box office sensation Moulin Rouge – The Ballet to Houston. Along with a rousing French soundtrack, Moulin Rouge – The Ballet features high-kicking choreography and a passionate story of love, ambition and heartbreak.

It’s turn-of-the-century Paris…a city of exquisite contradiction. The heady elixir of personal freedom bred lifestyles that were reckless and addictive. Drawn to Paris by the city’s passion, a flame fuelled by the hearts of lovers and the souls of poets, Matthew and Nathalie tempt fate as they seek love and destiny at the infamous cabaret – The Moulin Rouge.

Founded in 1939 by Gweneth Lloyd and Betty Farrally and receiving its royal title under the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet holds the double distinction of being Canada’s premier ballet company and the longest continuously operating ballet company in North America.
