Hooks-Epstein Galleries, participating in ArtHouston 2011, will present emerging Houston artist, Scott Woodard and the exhibiton Occupied Dreams, an exhibition of paintings and drawings. The exhibition opens Saturday, July 9, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. A reception for the artist will follow from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

In Occupied Dreams, Woodard’s compositions express his desire to achieve an “inner serenity” through his continued journey to find a spiritual path. This spiritual path, when practiced regularly and with sincere devotion, becomes self-propelling. Woodard is also fascinated by the transformation of an old thought that becomes new by being studied, viewed through a new idea or principle in an attempt to understand.

Throughout his artistic journey, Woodard’s sentinel figures in his work have evolved. His figures have evolved from very organic forms to architecturally static forms in his landscapes and large portraits. His sepia palette allows him to redefine the inner landscape as a minimal environment and concentrate on the composition.

Scott Woodard is a self-taught, local artist who has shown in several group exhibitions in California, New York and Texas. Occupied Dreams will continue through August 20, 2011.
