Joan Son on the Byzantine Fresco Chapel
    Sunday, August 7, 2011, 3:00 p.m.

Joan Son is best known for her work in paper folding. She debuted her art in the windows of Tiffany & Co. in the spring of 1993. She has created numerous large scale installations for public and private venues as well as small works for museum shops including the National Gallery of Art and the Smithsonian in Washington DC. She received a grant from the Houston Arts Alliance in 2009 to create an 8ft. patchwork robe. With a current exhibition at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft through August 13 and a featured exhibit at the Ellen Noel Art Museum, Odessa, Tx in September, Joan is in a very active period of her art. Her work seeks the mystical in the simple from a single fold to a thousand folded butterflies.
