Friday, Aug 19 through Wednesday, October 26 the JCC Deutser Art Gallery will display A Bundle of Letters - an exhibit of art quilts by Israeli artist Maya Chaimovich. The exhibition comes to Houston after a successful and extended run at the Columbus JCC in Ohio.

Chaimovich started traditional quilting sixteen years ago and studied at the Shenkar College of Art Design in Ramat Gan, under the tutelage of artist Orna Roglit. She quickly became attracted to a more abstract style and has now exhibited her art quilts all over the world, including Israel, England, Japan, Switzerland, and the U.S.

"The quilt became a language for me, to tell about exciting moments, family events, traveling and nature. Every special moment which I wanted to keep, I wrote it as a letter through my quilts, and then collected all of them to A Bundle Of Letters," explained Chaimovich. Her pieces are best described visually as “collages of vibrant hues that form stunning, abstract images” according to Art Coordinator Ariela Emery.

Having a solo show is a proud moment for Chaimovich. “For more than 10 years I exhibited my quilts together with other artists’ at the International Quilt Festival in Houston. Now, for the first time, I have my own exhibition here at the JCC and I am very grateful to have this wonderful opportunity.”
