Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts - UH and Project Row Houses present Communograph Artist Talk: Mel Chin, Sunday, October 2, at 3pm. LOCATION: Eldorado Ballroom, 2310 Elgin St. at corner of Dowling, Project Row Houses.

The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for Arts at the University of Houston and Project Row Houses welcome artist Mel Chin (pictured) to kick off Communograph: Mapping Through Creative Action, a series focusing on the exploration of the grassroots creativity found in the Third Ward. This series aims to help evaluate how the Arts at University of Houston can become an intellectual resource, redirecting its academic facilities and assets towards strengthening connections within the immediate neighboring community.

Mel Chin (born 1951 in Houston, Texas, USA) is a conceptual visual artist. Motivated largely by political, cultural, and social circumstances, Chin works in a variety of art media to calculate meaning in modern life. Chin places art in landscapes, in public spaces, and in gallery and museum exhibitions, but his work is not limited to specific venues. Chin once stated: “Making objects and marks is also about making possibilities, making choices—and that is one of the last freedoms we have. To provide that is one of the functions of art.”
