The Ars Lyrica 2011-12 season of Transformations -- emotional, spiritual, physical, even intellectual - continues with Musical Alchemy,  Saturday, November 12.

An evening of musical magic, with prize-winning soloists, striking instrumental combinations, even a taste of the supernatural! Familiar works by Bach and Handel are leavened with more exotic fare, including chamber works by Bach’s youngest son and by Frederick the Great’s personal composer.

Musical Alchemy brings together unconventional combinations of instruments, resulting in an evening of true musical gold. Baroque violin sensation Ingrid Matthews joins Ars Lyrica favorites Colin St. Martin on Baroque flute, Kathryn Montoya on Baroque oboe and recorder, and Matthew Dirst at the harpsichord, with members of the ensemble in works by J. S. and J. C. Bach, J. G. Janitsch, and Henry Purcell.

    Scheduled Program:
    J. S. Bach: “Brandenburg” Concerto No. 5
    J. G. Janitsch: Quadro “O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden”
    J. C. Bach: Quintet in D major, Op. 22, No. 1
    H. Purcell: Suite from The Fairy Queen
