Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) will open its 2011-2012 season with the golden age, swing-era musical comedy Guys and Dolls, a Tony Award winner for Best Musical and Best Musical Revival. TUTS will present the production September 27 - October 9 at Hobby Center for the Performing Arts.

Made popular by the film starring Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra, Guys and Dolls follows a group of gamblers, gangsters and gals in the seedy, after-hours underworld of the city that never sleeps. When chronic gambler Nathan Detroit finds himself in need of funds to support his floating craps game, Save-a-Soul Mission’s ultimate “good girl,” Sgt. Sarah Brown, becomes the center of a wager between gamblers Nathan and Sky Masterson.

Saddled with an additional distraction, Nathan must keep his long-time show girl fiancée, Adelaide, from finding out about his continued gambling while dodging both a trip down the aisle and the police.

Featuring all new scenery and filled with hits like “Luck Be A Lady” and “Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat,” this show is one the whole family will enjoy – you can bet on it!

Although Broadway shows are not traditionally rated, TUTS has determined that Guys and Dolls would be rated the movie equivalent of a PG rating.

Workshop for Students Ages 7 -12: Friday, September 30 from 5 – 7 p.m.
Embrace the Guys and Dolls culture with the Humphreys School of Musical Theatre by studying dialects using the script and score to learn ‘Brooklynese.’

Overture, TUTS’ young professionals group formerly known as UP@TUTS, will offer a special two-show package as well as an invitation to a 2011-2012 season kick-off event. Guys and Dolls is the first of the two shows featured in the Overture package. Other opportunities and events will be offered to the Overture members throughout the season. Parking:

The Hobby Center parking garage is located directly behind the complex with easy access from both Rusk and Walker streets. This 7-level, above-ground, 800-car garage offers self-parking ease for patrons and visitors alike. Event parking is an affordable $6 per vehicle. Valet service is provided during performances and in conjunction with Artista operating hours in front of the Hobby Center on Bagby Street, for $15 per vehicle between Rusk and Walker.
