UTMB - The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston presents The Long Journey Home: Caring for a Loved One with Dementa (A Play in 2 acts). The Houston run of the production takes place Friday-Saturday, August 19-20 at TBH Center.

The Long Journey Home – Caring for a loved-one with dementia, is a 2-act play that depicts the true stories of caregivers in the Houston/Galveston area who have taken care of parents, children and spouses with dementia/Alzheimer’s. The play, written by UTMB assistant professor, Oma Morey, PhD and directed by Lisa Marie Daugherty, is both entertaining and informative as it portrays the challenges and struggles as well as the love and humor that are all part of the caregiver’s journey as their loved ones progresses through the different stages of dementia/Alzheimer’s.

Following the play will be a short discussion by a panel of professionals from different fields including geriatrics, social work, nursing, medical humanities and end of life care on aspects of the play and a question and answer session with the panel, playwright, director and actors. Information on dementia/Alzheimer’s will be provided.
