The Jung Center of Houston presents Dreaming of Initiation.  Psychologist Tom Carter explores the meaning of archetypal dreams of initiation.

How can spontaneous dreams initiate us into the realm of soul-making? While our dreams often serve as symbols in our daily struggles, occasionally they confront us with an ancient image, suggesting an archetypal pattern which has existed through the ages.

The archetype of initiation appears in shamanism, ancient rites of passage, and in the dreams of contemporary individuals. When this archetype manifests it can lead to vocational changes, and an awareness and appreciation of a deep inner dimension.
In this talk and discussion, we will explore the distinguishing aspects of an archetypal dream of initiation. What are its healing qualities? Does it appear differently for women and men? What are some ways to honor this dream experience and carry it forward in our lives?

Tom Carter, PhD, MTh, LPC, recently received his PhD in Clinical Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute. His dissertation was on archetypal dreams of initiation in depth psychotherapists. Tom has taught several book studies at The Jung Center and has a private practice.
