Jermaine Lamarr Cole (born January 28, 1985 in Frankfurt, Germany), better known simply as J. Cole, is an American rapper and producer from Fayetteville, North Carolina. He is best known for being the first artist to be signed to Jay-Z's label Roc Nation after Jay heard his single "Lights Please". He released his debut mixtape The Come Up in 2007 and followed this up with 2009's The Warm Up and 2010's Friday Night Lights. Songfacts reports that he dropped his first official single, "Work Out" on June 15, 2011, the two-year anniversary of The Warm Up. He is now working on his highly anticipated debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story. Cole has appeared on the cover of The Source and Beyond Race magazines, as well as being featured as one of XXL’s 2010 Freshmen.

With such a diverse display, J. Cole is poised to wake up a dormant industry and cement his name in this game. But more than that, with his debut studio album currently in production, he hopes to change the tide of current rap music, swaying it in a more insightful, meaningful and passionate direction.
