The Back Porch Players presents Suzan-Lori Parks' IN THE BLOOD, running Wednesdays through Sundays, September 14-September 25.

Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks, IN THE BLOOD is a brilliant reimagining of THE SCARLET LETTER set in today’s urban America. Hester, a homeless African- American woman, struggles mightily to provide for her children. Through disclosed confessions of the adults most trusted in Hester’s life, the audience peers into the tragic circumstances that set the stage for Hester’s collapse.

For the production, The Back Porch Players have partnered with three non-profit organizations: The Women’s Home of Houston, a residential program helping women overcome addiction and mental illness; Generation One, a volunteer organization based in Houston’s Third Ward that focuses on tutoring and mentoring of children and on physical transformation of the neighborhood; and Search Homeless Services. Representatives of each organization will speak about their work at post-show discussions.
