Leslie Scates presents By a Committee of Style-10 Choreographers from TX, OH, MO, NY, WA, MS in Concert, Thursday-Saturday, October 27-29 at 8pm, at Barnevelder Movement Arts Complex. 2201 Preston Street, Houston, TX 77003.

Leslie Scates presents 10 inspiring dancemakers that comprise her far-flung dance community; all artists that Leslie joins in multiple international creative endeavors. Scates, of whom dance critic Nancy Wozny writes, "... is hands-down the most interesting mover in Houston," (Dance Source Houston) now shares these seasoned and excellent improvisors/choreographers/performers with the Houston arts community.

In addition to Scates, the program will feature work by: Lower Left Performance Collective with members- Rebecca Bryant (MO), Nina Martin (TX) and Margaret Paek (NY); Sandra Mathern (OH); Jordan Fuchs (TX); a trio of collaborators Nadia Losonsky (WA), Bethany Nelson (MS), and Lily Sloan (TX); and Sarah Gamblin (TX).

Bryant presents, Suite Female Parts II-VIII. About Part I, Wozny writes, "the piece lets the audience in on the visceral sometimes brutal edge of improvisational choreography."(Dance Source Houston) Lower Left members, "Soaring polemic and satire, moments of beauty and anger."(Devorah Knaff, San Diego Union Tribune) premiere the trio, Marfa Study and Martin presents Brief Study #501. Mathern, "...admitted preoccupation with the pure physicality of movement." (Jay Weitz,) presents Swimming Green, a new trio for herself, Scates, and Bryant. Scates is also performing with Fuchs in their acclaimed Programmed Cell Death. "To call it intense would seem like a gross understatement." (Nancy Wozny, Dance Source Houston) Sloan, Nelson and Losonsky present WAMSTX, and Gamblin, "...sharp and cutting dance performance...it left you wanting more." (Abbie Koenig, Houston Press) presents Spaces: A Constellation, created and performed with composer Sarah Summar. Summar and Gamblin explore how the mediums of music and dance might re-invent the ears and eyes that have informed this age-old relationship. This unique gathering of artists promises a stimulating evening at the theater.
